The Doll Ladies in "Nawlens", Where's the Jazz?
Photo-illustration - © 2003 George L. Venable
Medium: Nikon D70 & Adobe Photoshop, version CS2

The actual size of the ladies in this image (shown in inset) are about 8" tall and the title given by their creator is "The Gossipers". They are the creations of Annie Wahl, a wonderful doll artist who is widely known for her character dolls. I took the picture of the dolls in a very dark exhibition hall at the annual NIADA (National Institute of American Doll Artists) Conference in New Orleans in 2003 with Annie's permission. I wanted to see if I could clean the image up and add some interest to the composition by putting the ladies out on the streets of New Orleans. It couldn't have worked better although the image is a bit grainy. We all know these ladies, and I'm sure you have seen them somewhere too.
